Winter Golf/ Course Set-Up

November 10, 2021 by declan

Both courses are now set up for winter golf and players should note the following:

Ropes and Stanchions.
Ropes are in place to protect vulnerable areas of the course.
All ropes and stanchions on the course are to be treated as immovable obstructions from which free relief is allowed under rule 16.1.
Relief is not allowed under rule 15.2.
Penalty for Breach of Local Rule: 2 strokes or Loss of Hole.

If players swing or stance (but not line of sight) is impeded by the rope or the stanchion the player may avail of relief at the nearest point not nearer the hole.
A player moving a rope or stanchion whether in the course of playing a shot or otherwise incurs a 2-stroke penalty or loss of the hole in match-play.
If a ball strikes a rope or stanchion the stroke may be replayed at the players discretion without penalty.

Bunkers.
Unless marked GUR bunkers on the championship course are in play and the normal rules of golf apply. Please ensure the bunker is properly raked after play and the rake placed in the centre of the bunker.

Bunkers in Bomore are marked as GUR and the ball must be dropped in the designated drop zone.

Divot Bags.
All players are asked to take and use a divot bag when playing, it is preferable to repair a divot using the divot mix rather than replacing the broken sod.
The number of divot bags available is in constant decline so please don’t take your divot bag home but return it to the empties box when you are finished playing. If anyone has divot bags please return these a.s.a.p.

Bomore chipping and putting practice greens.
The two greens are now in play and the surfaces will continue to improve with time.
The green closest to the driving range is to be used for chip and run shots (no divots) from the designated area only.
The smaller green is to be used for putting only.

Pitch-marks.
Unrepaired Pitch-marks cause significant damage particularly at this time of year. Please spend a minute repairing any pitch-marks you see.

Mats.
There is no need to introduce mats at this time. This will be kept under review as we progress through the winter.

Kind Regards.

Terry Brady
Links Chairman.
