This year has seen great advances in the presentation of our course with favourable comments from members, visitors, our agronomist STRI, the GUI and indeed the R&A. It is a great credit to our green-keeping staff that we enjoy ever improving facilities. The use of divot bags has greatly improved the standard of our fairways and every member deserves credit for joining in this initiative. However with the onset of winter and softening ground our greens are taking a hammering due to un-repaired pitch-marks. Everyone accepts that a ball will leave a mark on the green but when this is repaired promptly and correctly there is no lasting damage. An un-repaired pitch-mark will cause damage that may not recover until next spring. We are lucky enough to have sand based greens and unlike many clubs are not forced to use temporary greens for the whole winter. But we need to protect what we have or this may become a necessity. So we urge all members to repair at least two pitch-marks on every green each time they play. It only takes a minute, anyone can do it and everyone should do it. The benefits of this simple action far outweigh the consequences. See attached video of Mark demonstrating the correct way to repair a pitch-mark. https://vimeo.com/291529396 Thank you for your assistance. Links Committee. |
