There are some new rules that apply from 31st March 2022.
(1) The Handicap Index will be Mandatory on the Scorecard. The computer should do this
mostly but it’s important to always check. It is recommended that the Course Handicap and
the Playing Handicap would also be on the scorecard but these two are not mandatory.
(2) If a score is pre-registered but not submitted there is now a process whereby Golf Ireland can impose a penalty score on your Handicap record. This applies to scores that come through on the club software or on the Golf Ireland App. Before this is implemented the player will receive an email to remind them to submit their score. It can be appealed to the Handicap Secretaries.
So, it is very important to always submit your score after pre-registering regardless of whether you finish the round or not. For unfinished rounds there is a facility on the touch screen where you can state that you didn’t play the hole. If you play 10 or more holes of an 18-hole round this will go into your Handicap record assuming that you have a valid reason for not finishing. If you play less than 10 it will not go into your Handicap record but you should submit the score to avoid a penalty score. All the holes must be played in a 9-hole round for it to count.
