Thanks For The Memory
It's a year ago this week that the club hosted the Eugene Feeney Memorial Scramble. Some 64 members turned out to play in memory of Eugene, who had been a life-long member of County Sligo Golf Club. I'm not one for making speeches -nor my brother John - and we didn't get a chance to thank everyone enough for making the day happen. So, with the anniversary upon us, John and I thought it was our chance put that right by saying a huge thank you to everyone involved in the occasion. Past Captain Joe … [Read more...] about Thanks For The Memory

It is a great credit to our green-keeping staff that we enjoy ever improving facilities. The use of divot bags has greatly improved the standard of our fairways and every member deserves credit for joining in this initiative. However with the onset of winter and softening ground our greens are taking a … [Read more...] about Pitchmarks!
Putting With The Pin In
A message from Head Greenkeeper Mark MillarSince the new putting rule has been in place allowing a player to putt with the pin still in the hole, every Greenkeeper in the country is not overly happy with this change. We are seeing the edges of the holes being regularly damaged, much more so than previously when the pin was removed. Our team are having to change holes more often due to the damage thus taking man hours away from other jobs. Can I please encourage members to carefully lift the pin … [Read more...] about Putting With The Pin In

“Satan”: The Original 4th Hole From 1894
The 4th Hole “Satan” is the only hole that is possible to play from the original 9-Hole links of Campbell and Combe. George Combe was the founding Hon. Secretary of the GUI and also Hon. Tee the ball on Peter’s Hill, then a carry of about 160 yds across a deep gully called “The Tugela” to a platform on the other … [Read more...] about “Satan”: The Original 4th Hole From 1894
