A win for the Wynnes

WYNNE by name and win by nature.

Derek and Conor showed there is more to their surname than a proud boast by “wynning” the club’s team fundraiser — ably abetted by Denis O’Sullivan and Donal Cronin.

The team of four carried the day with 88 points, edging out Mark Rooney, Aidan Power, Fintan Monaghan and Peter Carr who returned the same score but missed out on the back nine score.

Third and fourth spots also went to a countback with Tony Leonard, Dave Edwards, Shane Flaherty and Niall Stafford sneaking in ahead of Gerry Cannon, Pat Carr, Vincent Nally and John Fitzgerald. Both had 85 points but the former team were one point smarter coming home.

Scoring was tough on the day, Saturday, May 17, with a stiff breeze. All prize winners had scores in the 80s with the exception of Johnny and John Armstrong, Brian Feeney and Felix McElhone who dragged their bones over the line for ninth prize with 78 points.

Teams coordinator Shane Underwood thanked the many players who turned out to support our teams: “A great day’s golf was had on Saturday at the annual teams fundraiser with a fantastic turnout of 33 teams on a dry but breezy day,” said Shane. He gave particular thanks to the tremendous work done by Louis Walsh in organising the event. At the presentation, Louis was quick to acknowledge the fantastic support and generosity of our members, their guests and the day’s numerous sponsors who made this such a successful event.

The results were as follows: 1, Denis O’Sullivan (16), Derek Wynne (14), Donal Cronin (7), Conor Wynne (5) 88 Pts (B9-44); 2, Mark Rooney (3), Aidan Power (16), Fintan Monaghan (13), Peter Carr (23) 88pts (B9-39); 3, Tony Leonard (15), Dave Edwards (15), Shane Flaherty (12), Niall Stafford (10) 85pts (B9-41); 4, Gerry Cannon (24), Pat Carr (18), Vincent Nally (14), John Fitzgerald (17) 85pts (B9-40); 5, A Skeffington (13) A Parkinson (14), R O’Grady (5), Tony Parkinson (6) 84pts; 6, Michael Gillen (18), David Pugh (16), Tommy Rooney (20), Conor Frazer (20) 82pts (B9-42); 7, Pat Heelan (15), Charlie Carr (16), Joe Gannon (23), Robert Heelan (15) (B9-39); 8, Kieran O’Brien (10), Michael Barrett (13), Pat Togher (18), S McGinty (25) 82pts (B9-36); 9.
