DIAGEO WINTER LEAGUE
Main Course Day Prize Winner-  Keith Mc Loughlin (15) & Tony Leonard (15) 3 up
Bomore Day Prize Winner- Ger Quinlivan (13) & John Feeney (9)  3 up.

The Saturday Four-Ball competition was won by Michael Cullen & Kieran Mc Donagh with a great score of 32 points for 15 holes playing through gale force winds and driving rain which sent many competitors running for cover. Anton Murphy & Garry Byrne produced a good score of 31 points to take second place on the back seven.

Congratulations to Gary Mc Dermott who last week was presented with the Connacht GUI Senior Golfer of the Year Award, a prestigious award in Connacht golf.  Well done Gary.

Round 4 of the DIAGEO Winter League was played last Sunday in testing conditions. The only unbeaten pair after four rounds is Gary Mc Dermott and Alan Henry.

In Section 1 Tom Kenny and our new captain Bryan Kilfeather are joint leaders with Aidan Tinsley & Aidan Power ; Denis O’ Sullivan & Naoise Davitt, all on 9 pts.  Ger Quinlivan & John Feeney had a good win with a score of 3 up against Robert Fitzpatrick & Damien Higgins. Moving up the table after 3 pt. wins are Pat Lyons & Kieran O’ Brien ; Ken Henry & Mark Flanagan  and Garth Mc Manus & David Connolly.

In Section 2 Gary Mc Dermott & Alan Henry go clear at the top with 12 pts. Only three points separate the next five pairs. Despite their loss to Niall & John Nugent, past captain Michael Mc Gowan & Dave Taylor held onto second place with 9 pts. Niall & John Nugent have moved into third spot with 7 pts. closely followed in fourth place by Donal Barry & Michael Hannigan who beat Larry Kelly & Leo Nicholson.

In Section 3 the leaders are Jim Mulcahy & John Mc Manus on 9 pts having beaten Pat Forkan & Michael Whelan. Wins for Dave Mc Donald & Pat Doyle ; Glen Nairn & Ruairi O’ Connor  ; Brian Feeney & Pat Neiland  who are all now in joint second on 7 pts. James Barnicle & Peter Maguire, are on 6 pts following two consecutive wins.

Section 4 played on the Bomore resulted in wins for joint leaders Frank Gleeson & Gerry Cannon and Neil Stafford & Anton Murphy both on 9 pts, Wins were also recorded for John McNamara & Shane Underwood (7 pts ) and Eamonn Creed & Michael Barrett (6 pts) .

Section 5 is the tightest group with the leaders changing each round. A win for Paddy Ward & Tommy Kelly over Aidan Glackin & Brendan Feeney has given them poll position on 9 pts. They are closely followed on 7 pts. by Luke Armstrong & Declan Gallagher and Shane Flaherty & Jimmy Treacy following their 3 pt. wins. Five pairings are now on 6 pts.

In Section 6 Keith Mc Loughlin & Tony Leonard with a score of 3 up had a good win over the previously unbeaten leaders Fergal O’ Flaherty & David Mc Guinness and wins for Dermot O’ Hara & Joe Henry and David Conneely & Derek Wynne see all four pairs on 9 pts. On 6 pts are Padraig Mc Manus & Vincent Mc Gee; John Mc Hugh & Aidan Doyle and Karol Butler & Gerard Sproule.  Another tight group with three points separating the top seven pairings.

Next Round of the DIAGEO Winter League is Sunday December 11th.
