Main Course Day Prize Winner-  Kieran Mc Donagh (15) & Fergal Burke (16)- 4 up
Bomore Day Prize Winner- Tom Heelan (13) & Pat Heelan (16) –6 up.

In the Saturday Single Stableford competition, three competitors finished on 24 points.Anthony Leonard narrowly beat Des Kennedy (second) and Kyle Kane (third) on the back 6. Niall Stafford came fourth on 23 points on the back 6. Well done to Stephen Crowley who won the two’s competition with an albatross on the par 5 fifth hole.

Round 5 of the DIAGEO Winter League was played on Sunday last. Sections 1 to 3 played on the main course while Sections 4, 5 and 6 played on Bomore holes 1& 2 and main course holes 7, 8 ,10-14. The unbeaten pairing of Gary Mc Dermott & Alan Henry lost to the day prize winners on the main course, Kieran Mc Donagh & Fergal Burke, who had a score of 4 up. The father and son combination, Pat & Tom Heelan, had a fantastic score of 6 up on the modified Bomore course.

In Section 1 Robert Fitzpatrick & Damien Higgins are now top of the group after beating Denis O’ Sullivan  & Naoise Davitt who are in joint second place on nine points. Four other pairings are on nine points. Pat Lyons & Kieran O’ Brien are in seventh place on eight points after Ger Quinlivan & John Feeney snatched a draw on the last hole.

In Section 2 Michael Mc Gowan & Dave Taylor have drawn level with Gary Mc Dermott & Alan Henry on 12 pts while Niall & John Nugent move into third position with 10 pts. Kieran Mc Donagh & Fergal Burke and Simon Rooney & Roddy Gaynor both won their matches and are in joint fourth place on nine points.

In Section 3 Glen Nairn & Ruairi O’ Connor are now leading the group with 10 points  following their win over Trevor Johnson who was minus his partner David Murray. The previous leaders Jim Mulcahy & John Mc Manus lost out to Rob Kelly & Gary Devins . Both pairings are on nine points. Four other pairs within the group are also on  nine points.

Section 4 was played on the modified Bomore Course . Niall Stafford & Anton Murphy beat David Cunningham & John Armstrong to maintain their lead with twelve points. Wins for Michael Mc Namara & John Keane ; Pat Naughton & Austin O’ Callaghan and John Mc Namara & Shane Underwood place these three pairs in joint second on 10 points. The day prize win for Tom & Pat Heelan moves them up to sixth place on seven points.

Section 5 produced some surprises.  Declan Gallagher played on his own and had a good win over Jimmy Flynn & John Sheehy . Declan and his partner Luke Armstrong are now joint leaders on ten points. Shane Flaherty & Jimmy Treacy also on ten points beat the experienced local duo Nicky Harte & Felix Mc Elhone. Conor Frazer, without his partner Ciaran O’ Gara, beat Joe Harrigan & Frank Dunne which places them in joint second with nine points. Three other pairings are on nine points. Just four points separates the top eight pairs in this group.

In Section 6 Fergal O’ Flaherty & David Mc Guinness beat Dermot O’ Hara & Joe Henry which keeps them in joint first place together with David Conneely & Derek Wynne on twelve points. In joint second on nine points are Keith Mc Loughlin & Tony Leonard ; Padraig Mc Manus & Vincent Mc Gee ; John Mc Hugh & Aidan Doyle and Dermot O’ Hara & Joe Henry.
